Funeral Services Thursday for J. R. Simmonds
Final rites for James Robert Simmonds were held in the Emerson Church Thursday afternoon, attended by a large number of friends and relatives. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Richard Person. Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. Lester DeBolt and Mrs. C ????? who were accompanied by Mrs. H. E. Greenwood. Morris Harbor, Ed Wallace, Robert Hancock, Ernest Houser, San Garnet and Jack Niday served as pall bearers. Flowers were cared for by Mrs Gordon Hascall, Mrs. Ward Thrapp, Mrs. Charles Lakin and Mrs. Art Darby. John Simpson and Gordon ????? were ushers. The Rev. Mr. Person read the following  life sketch:


James Robert Simmonds was born June 27, 1917 to James William and Mrs. Ida Simmonds at Henderson. He ? ? ? ? ? He has spent his entire life in the Henderson and Emerson area except for a short time when he and his family lived in Colorado. Mr. Simmonds was a member of the Methodist church of Henderson. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He passed away suddenly at his home near Emerson on Monday June 25, 1959. He was employed by the Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America as an auxiliary engineer at the time of his death.


Mr. Simmonds was preceded  in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife June of Emerson; his children, Ronnie, Saundra, Virginia, Roger, Linda, David, Mike, John, Rita and Tommie, all of Emerson; three brothers, Wayne of Hancock, Maurice of Lansing, Joe of Golden, Colo.; eight sisters, Mrs. Alta Forristall of Macedonia, Mrs. Ida Guyer of Hancock, Mrs. Jean Vendengia and Mrs. Helen Colbourn of Denver, Mrs. Pauline Whitmire, Mrs. Fern Eilers, Mrs. Ora Mrsny and Mrs. Leonora Jones all of Omaha; one aunt and two uncles and a number of cousins besides a great host of friends. The entire community will Mr. Simmonds in his passing. Burial was in Farm Creek cemetery at Henderson with Mansfield's Funeral Home in charge.
